1972 Dodge Charger Race Car
BackJohn's '72 Richard Petty Charger Racecar Restoration
This 1972 Dodge Charger Stock Car was originally built right here in Level Cross at Petty Enterprises to be run in NASCAR's top series by Buddy Baker. At the time, Baker raced for Petty Enterprises and was Richard's teammate. In those days it was not uncommon for cars to be repurposed and converted year to year to save money. This car is no exception as it was changed over to the 43 in '73 and raced on-track by Richard Petty.
Once the car had finished its life cycle at Petty Enterprises, it was sold and raced in lower-tier series by numerous different drivers. Eventually, the car was converted to a Richard Petty "tribute" somehow and ended up in California. Our client found the vehicle online, researched the car's story and had it brought to Petty's Garage in Level Cross for authentication. Richard Petty, Dale Inman, and Richie Barsz gave the car a thorough examination and determined that this was a real deal race car from the old Petty Enterprises days. At that point we then had the green light to move forward with a full restoration of the car.
The entire build of this car will be under Richard and Dale's watchful eyes and documented here, be sure to follow along!
