Petty Power on Display at Jeep Beach 2018

For almost a decade, our team of talented builders and mechanics have upped the horsepower on countless Challengers, Mustangs, Camaros, and modern muscle cars of the like and have stayed within that wheelhouse for the most part.  This all changed recently when we came to the realization of an extremely popular off-roader in serious need of more power: the Jeep Wrangler JK.  An incredible off-roading pedigree, solid front axle, beefy suspension, and removable top are just a few features that make the JK such an excellent candidate for trail rides and rock crawling.  However, the JK does not excel coincidentally in its most common use: driving at highway speeds (especially after a lift kit, larger wheels and tires, etc.).  While its Pentastar 3.6L is a solid powerplant, as many Jeepers will attest to, it leaves much to be desired at over 40 MPH.  

There are multiple ways to solve this issue and we took to Jeep Beach in Daytona Beach, FL to show off our Petty Powered JK's. With roughly 8,000 Jeeps filling up the infield of Daytona International Speedway and over 30,000 in attendance, Jeep Beach is the largest Jeep event in the southeast and the third largest event in Daytona following the Daytona 500 and Bike Week.  Complete with obstable courses, beach cruises, block parties, and more Jeep Beach is truly an event you have to see to believe.  For us there was no better option to educate Jeepers on what is possible under the hood.

The first and most popular (most affordable) option is installing a supercharger.  Edelbrock makes an awesome E-Force blower that works great for this application (shown above) especially when fed by a Mopar cold air intake.  With both custom PCM and TCM tuning, the upgrade produces over 400 hp at the crank and can be installed and ready to roll for just over $8000!  Petty's Garage is one of the few, if not the only shop in the US that does custom TCM (transmission control module) tuning so that the transmission communicates and responds correctly depending on the supercharger, wheel & tire size, etc.  We displayed two of these Edelbrock supercharged Jeeps at Jeep Beach: our demo General Tire build (shown above) and a recently completed example for our friends at Wells Custom Jeep.  Both Jeeps are running Magnaflow Performance Exhaust Kits, a must-have to get the Jeep sounding as good as it performs.  As this was our first venture onto the Jeep-only event scene, Magnaflow was nice enough to let us display in their booth and hang out for the weekend.  

When 6 cylinders just doesn't cut it, go big or go home!  And by home we mean HEMI SWAP (of course!).  What you see here is an absolute beast built by Wells Custom Jeep out of Warrenton, VA.  It has 40x14s, state-of-the-art ICON suspension kit, all the body armor a Jeeper could ever want and, oh yeah, a whoppin' 392 cubic inch HEMI by Petty under the hood!  This Jeep debuted in the Alpine Electronics booth and really stole the show at Jeep Beach-not an easy task considering that there were literally thousands of Jeeps on hand.  Wells Custom Jeep is a big player in our "Powered by Petty" segment, which is the new tagline for shops that build custom vehicles but use Petty's Garage power in the engine department.  A number of both 5.7L and 6.4L HEMI swaps have been completed to date and we would gladly swap a HELLCAT powertrain in as well!
